During the Second World War Canadian troops were based at Brownings Farm as they prepared for D Day. These Camps sprung up all over the country at the time and ‘Brownings Camp’ was one of two camps in the village. Towards the end of the war it became home to Polish refugees. The infrastructure of Brownings Camp still remains.
The largest structure is a 7 metre high nissan hut. Other structures include a brick outbuilding, previously a laundry room, now used as a farm workshop and a water treatment plant.
